Innovation In Teaching & Learning

Technology, internet, social media, distance education, globalization, internationalization, and emergencies, to name a few are factors that contribute to fast-paced changes in the education landscape. Teachers have numerous questions. They are also inundated with information that they don’t always have the time to curate.

Therefore, this five-week course will provide space for teachers to discuss emerging trends (a foundational grounding for Innovation) in teaching and learning and help teachers to address questions they have about Innovation. It builds upon past practices and ideas and is situated within one’s personal and biographical narrative. Teachers will discuss the philosophical, historical, and ethical approaches to Innovation. They will also have an opportunity to discuss practical applications of Innovation. Topics include different types of literacy, outdoor education, culturally responsive education, relational pedagogies, community building, importance of parental involvement, and distance education, etc., …

After completing this course, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding the terms innovation and creativity in the teaching and learning context
  • Build a personal narrative wherein innovative practice can take root
  • Explore history and historical thinking as a way of exploring past practices
  • Engage in a public forum to explore and reflect upon innovative ideas within their broader context
  • Engage in continued reflection to explore innovate ideas through an equity and inclusive lens
  • Analyse the ethical and practical approaches to innovation in teaching and learning
  • Explore Topics in innovation
  • Build a personal learning network
