Research, observations and teacher feedback indicate that demonstrating and achieving progress in lessons can be challenging. The course is designed to showcase and collaborate on strategies that promote the stretch and challenge needed to push students beyond their objectives, leading to significant progress. This approach should not be confined to high high-achieving students; instead, teachers should feel confident in setting high aspirations and targets for all students, including those who are low-performing. Through this course, teachers will gain this confidence by learning various methods and activities that can be seamlessly integrated into lessons with minimal resources and planning.
This five-week course is designed to offer practical advice and classroom tools, informed by the latest research on supporting Gifted and Talented students. While it adopts a science-centred approach, the tools provided are adaptable across various subjects, allowing you to share best practices with colleagues throughout your school.
After completing this course, participants should be able to:
- Explore and plan strategies to implement stretch and challenging activities that facilitate progress within a lesson.
- Explain how to evaluate and measure the impact of stretch and challenge activities which facilitate progress.
- Analyse practical skills that improve progress.
- Apply learning and share best practice.
- Reflect on current practice and refine practice.
