Hassan Hamdan is a professor in the Department of Special Education at the
College of Education, United Arab Emirates University. He is also the
Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Educational Research,
published by the College of Education at UAEU. He earned his Ph.D. from the
University of Arizona in the United States in 2006. Dr. Hamdan is a member of
various international organizations, including the World Council for Gifted and
Talented Children (WCGTC), where he serves as a national delegate, the European
Council for High Ability (ECHA), the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC),
the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), and the American
Educational Research Association (AERA).He has
published more than 50 research articles and book chapters in the fields of
special education, giftedness, and early childhood education in prestigious
international journals and edited volumes. Dr. Hamdan is also a member of the
editorial boards of several peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal for
the Education of the Gifted, Gifted and Talented International, and
the Journal of Special Educational Technology.Dr. Hamdan
has developed and adapted various research tools and designed enrichment
programs for gifted students in countries such as the United States, Egypt,
Oman, and the UAE, with a focus on the STEM approach. He is currently leading a
team from the Department of Special Education in implementing the STEAM
enrichment programs in collaboration with the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance.He has
participated in numerous international conferences, chaired many sessions, and
has secured several funded projects and grants, both locally and
internationally, in the areas of giftedness, innovation, and enrichment
programs. Among the many honors he has received are the UAEU recognition for

Research Award in Oman in 2017, and the College of Education’s Excellence in

Chi Sum also contributes to the development of PISA instruments, leveraging his background in international assessment methodology and data science. He is currently researching the use of AI in international large-scale assessments, focusing on coding open-ended questions and providing detailed feedback for student improvement.Before working in the field of education, Chi Sum has worked in the development field. During his time in Latin America, he collaborated with NGOs in Peru and Un Techo Para Mi País in Argentina, one of the largest civil society organizations in social development in the region. He also participated in a large-scale project with UNICEF Argentina, producing a publication on the lives of young people in informal settlements in Buenos Aires. In France, Chi Sum was elected to the trustee board of CCFD – Terre Solidaire, one of the largest development NGOs in France. He advised the NGO on strategies related to food security, international partnerships, and citizen empowerment in Latin America.Chi Sum read an MSc in Educational Assessment from the University of Oxford.
