This course was designed to support teachers, to navigate teaching and learning easily, to engage in more collaborative, interactive and purposeful learning with students during and post the pandemic.
It will expose teachers to strategies across various year levels, curriculum areas, practices that will elicit, develop, interpret and diagnose students’ thoughts. Teachers will explore how to understand classroom discourse and be able to plan for and utilize instructional strategies for effective teaching and learning. It will ultimately facilitate better teaching and learning skills through hands on classroom experiences and the enactment of instructional strategies more effectively within their classroom practices.
This five-week course will therefore, provide teachers with opportunities to examine, discuss and reflect upon evidence of pedagogy by observing and listening to teachers describe and explain their complex practice and the ways in which they develop their students’ thinking skills.
After completing this course, participants should be able to:
- Facilitate group discussions within the classroom
- Model content effectively
- Draw out students’ ability to think critically through effective questions
- Enhance students’ thinking through metacognition
- Understand themselves as learners
