The ‘Building a strong foundation’ is a 6-week course designed to equip teachers with the necessary skills and tools to teach explicit reading in the foundation phase (Kindergarten-Grade 4). However, this course will benefit English teachers in all cycles. Research has shown that many students in cycle 2 and 3 schools are struggling readers. Why? Because they have missed the crucial steps in developing their foundation reading skills.
The foundation phase needs a structured, consistent and progressive reading program suitable for the specific needs of the students in RAK.
During the 6-week course teachers will understand the importance of developing reading at the foundation stage and the positive effects it will have on the students in their later grades.
